Happy October! It seems that fall is finally here with the arrival of the cold, crisp, blustery air, but last weekend, while we still had that uncharacteristically warm weather, my mom and I took advantage of the nice day to do some antiquing in the East Village of Des Moines. On just one little block along E. Grand St. exists three of our favorite vintage and antique stores.
Silo Vintage has only been open for three months, but they are definitely one of the trendiest vintage stores in Des Moines.
With a feel that mixes industrial salvage and vintage chic, Silo has a lot of great furniture pieces, sweet shelf items, and some special vintage-inspired handmade goods.
While you’re visiting Silo Vintage, don’t forget to wrap around the block and stop in at Porch Light:
Porch Light always has beautiful displays that inspire me for my own home décor.
I love the combination of these brightly colored clocks! Wouldn’t it be cool to display them in your home and set each clock to a different time zone across the world?
Got to love gingham check aprons!
Porch Light has a nice selction of vintage items, like these pretty hankies, along with vintage-inspired gift items like jewelry, journals, and cards.
Just a few storefronts to the west of Porch Light you’ll find Found Things:
This two-story antique shop has a vast collection of unique items to fill your home.
I love aged textures like chipping paint, and there are a lot of great pieces with that rough, worn look that makes antique items so captivating.
So many wonderful things!
So next time you’re in downtown Des Moines, visit the East Village and stop by these great shops to get your fill of vintage love.
What are your favorite antique and vintage shops and what makes them so special?
