We recently updated our workshop, and we took one brief and rare moment of tidiness to snap a few photos to share!
If you were to take a peek right now, of course, you would see that every surface is covered in rolls upon rolls of vintage wallpaper as we sort and process our most recently acquired collection. At least the neat organization can live on in the photos. ;)
One of our favorite features of our updated workshop is the new walls. Our old walls looked like this--
--a patchwork of vintage wallpaper pieces. It was beautiful for our old workshop, but we were looking to do something a little different this time.
For our new walls, we hung lots of different papers in full-length strips around the room to create a pretty striped vintage wallpaper pattern showcase.
For us, the move from patchwork walls to strips of full wallpaper patterns really captured the transformation of Hannah’s Treasures as a business over the years.
In the beginning, when Hannah’s Treasures focused on the creation of handmade vintage wallpaper bandboxes, we examined each wallpaper pattern for its small-scale visual value, picking and choosing patterns based on what would look pretty on a little keepsake box. The former patchwork walls really represented the way we saw vintage wallpaper patterns many years ago—as lots of small sections of pretty designs repeating on a larger roll.
Now that Hannah’s Treasures specializes in supplying full rolls of vintage wallpaper, we see each roll of wallpaper as a whole. Rather than a bunch of repeating smaller designs, we see the whole pattern for the greater design itself. We envision each new roll we find in terms of how it might be viewed on a wall. This more holistic way of viewing the wallpaper has opened our eyes to the beauty of many more patterns over the recent years. Some styles of wallpaper that we were less interested in years ago seem fresh and wonderful now that we picture their effect on a larger scale.
Our new workshop walls also represent to us many of our current customers. Though we have many customers who do amazing small projects with vintage wallpaper (and we love them!), we also sell a lot of our paper to customers who hang the wallpaper in their homes or use it for photography backdrops. We also work with films and plays that use our vintage wallpaper to construct their period sets. Since many of our customers are viewing our wallpaper patterns with a large wall in mind, we love that our current workshop reminds us of them!
Though the larger part of our inventory is stored outside of our workshop, all of our Etsy goodies are right there with us! All of the patterns for Hannah’s Treasures on Etsy and Retro Wallpaper are tucked away on all the different shelves.
Even though Hannah’s Treasures has gone through a number of changes over the years, we still like to keep some bandboxes and other little memories of the old shop around as reminders of our beginning.
