A beautiful background for a beautiful bride--
We had the privilege of creating a photo board for our dear friend's wedding. As an member of our Hannah's Treasures extend family, she loved the idea of bringing in some vintage wallpaper on her special day.
Creating a vintage wallpaper backdrop is really quite easy. You need only a few things:
1. Two 8 x 4 plywood panels (or whatever size works for you)
2. White Primer
3. Wheat Paste (we recommend Golden Harvest)
4. Assortment of Vintage Wallpaper
5. And a handyman who knows how to rig the board to stand on it's own (or your own know-how if you've got it--kudos!)
First we primed the two large panels with a nice white base coat. Then we selected a pretty mix of wallpaper in soft pinks and whites to go with her blush wedding. Finally, we hung the wallpaper on the boards using wheat paste.
As we were combing through our collection for the perfect patterns to use, we were inescapably drawn to anything with pink flowers, particularly roses. (After all, nothing says pretty and feminine like a rosy rose!) A few neutral damasks were thrown in for some balance.
Layering the wallpaper to make a compelling collage did take a little thoughtfulness. We tried to vary the size and line as much as possible to create a pleasing overall look. For some papers, we hung the whole width in one long strip; others we fragmented into much smaller sections. With a few of them, we even matched a second (or even third) piece to create a larger swath of pattern. We kept some of the lines and edges straight, while many we tore to look even more tattered. We also tried to be conscious of connecting the two separate boards together by incorporating the same pattern in a few different spots.
When all the papers were hung and had finished drying, we gently sanded over the top of them to subtly emphasize the vintage and worn feeling. By the end of the afternoon, we had a beautiful finished product! A couple pieces of furniture and a few props made it a fun place for guests to hang out too.
A pretty background + a gorgeous bride = some truly lovely photos.
